Vin chaud – glühwein – hot wine

In Savoy region, just 80 km from my home, it is also very traditional to prepare the hot wine in winter,… I remember when I was younger, coming back from skiing at 17h00 and been welcome with a hot wine!!!!

If you are with a lot of snow as we have here this year, it doesn’t matter you’re German, Savoyard or American, try it one afternoon instead of the tea…

You need 1 bottle of red wine (do not choose a very good one), 1 orange, 1 lemon, 3 cloves, 5 peppers, 1 cinnamon stick and 80 grs. of sugar.
In a pot, you heat the wine with the sugar, the peel of the orange, the juice of the lemon, the cloves and cinnamon and let the sugar just melt with the wine.
I found a very nice alternative with star anise, 4 spices and vanilla you can add to the preparation.

Have it in a cold afternoon after a walk or skiing with some spices biscuits or a piece of cake!
